Hello New Year’s Resolutions!

It’s the first day of a new year.  Hello, 2016!

NY Resolutions

When I was much younger, I would come up with New Year’s Resolutions every year… Yes, let me repeat — EVERY year. Sometime in the evening of the 31st of December, I will sit down and write on my diary or journal my resolutions for the coming year.

Listing them down is one thing, following or fulfilling them is another.  At some point I realized that I have been writing down the same resolutions yearly (e.g. Lose at least 5 lbs., exercise regularly, write more, etc.). It’s frustrating when you realize that you never get to fulfill the things you promised you will do at the beginning of the year.

And yet each new year signifies a new beginning… You get to begin on a clean slate.  You have a fresh start to do the things you never got to do the previous year.  You get to say hello to your new year’s resolutions once again.

I think I only stopped listing down my resolutions when I settled down and had a family of my own. All of a sudden it felt trivial… and I never get to follow each of them anyway, so what’s the point?

Last year, for the fun of it, I actually made a list, yet again. I called it “Resolutions for 2015.”  Okay, let me take that back… I didn’t write them down for the fun of it.  I was actually serious about the things I listed down.  ‘Losing 5lbs’ predictably topped the list… followed by exercise regularly. 😦

Some things truly do not change.

And yet there are items that I have ticked off, too.  I may not have lost 5 lbs (or maybe I have — but because of the Christmas season I most likely gained it all back already), but I was able to check the item that says “eat healthy” and “write, submit articles, get published.”

Feels good knowing you have accomplished something, no matter how trivial.

It also feels good to have to work for something — work towards something — no matter how trivial.

Now I remember why I make those lists. It’s simply because I want to be reminded. I need to be reminded.

NY Resolutions

This is just for 2016…

  1. Lose at least 5lbs. (This never gets tiring!)
  2. Exercise regularly.
  3. Continue to eat healthy.
  4. Write regularly (blog, submit write ups, get published)
  5. Read at least one new book a month (Note to self: ONE book a month shouldn’t be too hard!!)
  6. SAVE
  7. STOP using credit card unless absolutely necessary.
  8. Pay off debts.
  9. Declutter.
  10. Be friendlier.
  11. Spend more time with my parents.
  12. Be more understanding and patient with my parents.
  13. Make time for my friends.

Off hand, these are but some of the things I would like to work on for this coming year. Phew, the list can just go on…

I am a work in progress.

Oh, and let me add another item:

14. Always be grateful for what I have.

This is going to be one exciting year. I can just feel it! 🙂

PS… I began composing this blog around 11pm of January 1, 2016… didn’t realize it’s already past midnight when I finished.  Bummer. But since technically it’s still the first of January in other parts of the world, then this should still count as my first day of 2016 entry. Did I say bummer?!:-(

Endings and beginnings

Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun… Please shine down on me…

No, my dear friends, you are not lost.

This is still the same blogsite (Life as it Happens), with blogs written by the same person (Me).  I was just tinkering with the WordPress themes and I saw a new one that looked fresh and clean and sunshiney, so I said to myself, “Why not?!”

So here I am… or rather, here it is!  My site’s new appearance.  Neat and cool, huh?!

Yesterday I talked about a chapter in my life that just ended.  Today I am trying out something new.

For every ending, there is a beginning that follows.  Don’t you just love it?

Here’s to the beginning of an exciting new chapter.
